The nightly power of Dermal LED Photography

February 10, 2015

Have you ever wondered exactly what LED Phototherapy was? Or thought how could light possibly improve my skin? Well we can assure you that the power of the Dermalux LED Light Therapy is second to none.

What is LED Phototherapy and what can it treat?

Dermalux LED Phototherapy is a non-invasive hand and facial treatment that uses narrow band, non-thermal light energy to trigger your body’s natural cell processes to accelerate rejuvenation and repair of the skin. Dermalux delivers excellent results for a wide range of skin concerns, most commonly used as an anti-ageing and anti-acne treatment. It also provides treatment for compromised and reactive skin conditions such as Rosacea, Pigmentation and also inflammatory disorders such as Eczema, Dermatitis and Psoriasis. This really is an SOS treatment for these disorders and we have witnessed phenomenal results here at Aqua with a psoriasis client seeing a significant difference in the skin on her feet. Less aggressive, red and itchy is a huge improvement for someone who suffers from these discomforting symptoms! See images at the bottom of the page (the right side is after 4 weeks of having 3 treatments per week).

How does LED Phototherapy work?

As a result of ageing, skin disorders or trauma, healthy skin cells are compromised and unable to renew themselves normally. The skin has the ability to absorb certain wavelengths of light (colours) and use them as a source of energy to activate specific cellular functions to produce a therapeutic effect. Light Therapy can reproduce these individual wavelengths to recharge the cells, energising them to heal quicker and rejuvenate faster. Think of your skin cells as batteries, they need recharging, and the more they are charged the better they will perform!

Dermalux uses three, evidence-based wavelengths of near-infared, blue and red light which are absorbed into the skin at different levels. The wave lengths give these benefits to the skin:

Red light:

  • Stimulates collagen synthesis and growth factor production
  • Increases hydration levels and moisture retention
  • Evens skin tone and texture
  • Reduces pigmentation
  • Calms redness & inflammation
  • Shrinks pores and sebaceous glands
  • Stimulates circulation & lymphatic system
  • Accelerates skin repair

Blue light:

  • Powerful anti-bacterial treatment
  • Treats all grades of acne without irritation
  • Reduces oil production
  • Prevents future breakouts
  • UV free alternative for eczema and psoriasis

Near Infared light:

  • Most deeply absorbed wavelength by skin tissue
  • Increases cell permeability and absorption
  • Reduces pain and inflammation
  • Accelerates wound healing
  • Heals cystic acne

***Instead of hitting the sunbeds to get the Vitamin D that we crave – opt for a Dermalux session instead, it will stimulate the natural production of Vitamin D to give you energy and of course happiness. ***

What does it feel like?

Pleasant and relaxing – take yourself to a tropical beach with a cocktail in your hand for 20 minutes!

How often can I have this treatment?

Each individual session is 20 minutes; you can have the treatment as frequent as 3 times a week. If you’re targeting a concern then it’s recommended to have a course of Dermalux treatments and each session being a couple of days apart. Like anything, the more you have the better results you’ll see. If you went to the doctor with a concern and he/she prescribed you with a course of antibiotics, you wouldn’t take one days’ worth and hope for the best would you? The course would need to be completed to notice a difference.

Dermalux LED Phototherapy is suitable for absolutely all skin types. Everybody would benefit from having Dermalux sessions; you don’t necessarily need to have a skin complaint to receive Dermalux treatment. It’s a fabulous treatment to kick start your skin cells – all skins need rejuvenation.

When having a facial at Aqua; don’t forget to add your Dermalux session onto it. It will significantly enhance the benefits of the treatment and push the active products deeper.
